Recently, several self-media accounts have published claims about alleged scams targeting exhibitors at the Canton Fair, drawing widespread public attention.
One post alleged that a company from Zhejiang was the victim of a "sample scam," in which a foreign buyer promised to purchase 300 CNC machines but disappeared after taking a sample worth 120,000 yuan. Another video claimed that "27 similar fraud cases were reported during the first week of the 2025 Canton Fair," with individual losses as high as 380,000 yuan. Additionally, a widely circulated article included a blurred photo of a foreign attendee and claimed that a dispute broke out between foreign buyers and the fair's organizing committee, with someone being taken away by authorities.
However, the photo in question was in fact a common scene at the Canton Fair, showing foreign buyers browsing exhibits. There were no staff from the organizing committee or onlookers present in the image.
A representative from the China Foreign Trade Centre, the official organizer of the Canton Fair, stated that no such fraud cases occurred during this year's fair. Moreover, there were no incidents of foreign guests clashing with staff at the venue. The statements made by these self-media sources were confirmed to be false.
The Guangdong Provincial Internet Reporting Center has reminded the public to stay alert to misinformation. While protecting one's legitimate rights and interests, people are also urged to remain cautious of rumors and avoid spreading content that may harm the Canton Fair's international reputation.
