A physical altercation between a Chinese student and several international students at the gym of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has recently sparked attention online.

The Chinese Student's Account of the Incident

According to the Chinese student's account, the incident occurred on the evening of April 23 during a workout session and escalated from a dispute over gym equipment into a violent confrontation.

The student claimed he had just completed the first set of an exercise on the cable machine and stepped away briefly. During that moment, a foreign student reportedly approached, removed the Chinese student's setup, and began adjusting the machine for himself. Due to limited English proficiency, the Chinese student said he simply told the foreign student in Chinese, "I'm using this." The foreign student allegedly replied, "Can you speak English?" which irritated the Chinese student, who responded, "This is China, you should speak Chinese."

Despite the warning, the foreign student allegedly continued to take over the machine. The Chinese student, angered, blocked him with his leg and said, "Go f**k away!" At that point, the foreign student began calling others over. The Chinese student initially didn't take it seriously, as the foreign student was standing behind him using his phone.

Attempting to defuse the tension, the Chinese student said he offered a compromise: "If you want to use it, you can tell me. We use it together." However, the foreign student declined and continued summoning people.

After completing his workout and leaving the gym, the Chinese student was reportedly followed by the same foreign student and a group of other international students. One of them, who could speak Chinese and was referred to by the alias "Arthur," acted as a translator. The Chinese student explained what had happened, and Arthur relayed the message. However, the foreign student allegedly stood nearby, repeatedly saying "F**k" in Chinese.

Suddenly, the foreign student reportedly attacked the Chinese student. The student said he suspected the attacker was wearing a ring or similar object, as the first punch caused bleeding on his face. When he attempted to call the police, the foreign student allegedly tried to stop him and continued hitting him.

Two other foreigners reportedly restrained the Chinese student by holding his arms, while one of them punched and kicked him. The student said he managed to kick back, but was overwhelmed. The foreign student then tried to flee, and a group of people chased after him. The Chinese student eventually lost consciousness and later woke up in the hospital, where his blood was being drawn.

University and Police Responses

In response to the incident, staff from the university's Office of International Exchange and Cooperation stated that the school has proper procedures in place and will actively handle the situation, with an official outcome to be released later. A university administrative staff member also confirmed that the school will work with police and ensure a fair and impartial process.

Local police said the matter would be handled in strict accordance with laws and regulations.
