Two travelers tried to sneak $310K in cash—stuffed in luggage and pant legs—but customs caught them.
On March 20, customs officers at Changsha Huanghua International Airport detected anomalies in the luggage of two inbound passengers who opted for the "No Declaration" channel. Upon inspection, officials discovered $150,000 in cash inside their baggage. A further body search revealed that each passenger had an additional $80,000 concealed on their person, bringing the total to $310,000.
Customs authorities have temporarily seized the cash in accordance with the law. Under Chinese regulations, cash is classified as a restricted item for cross-border transportation. Travelers carrying more than 20,000 RMB or foreign currency exceeding the equivalent of $5,000 must declare it to customs and proceed through the "Declaration" channel.
