Snooker Star Ronnie O’Sullivan Becomes Hong Kong Resident

  Snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan has become a Hong Kong resident under the talent scheme.  

  On October 31, the Hong Kong Immigration Department announced that renowned snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan has been granted approval to participate in the Hong Kong Quality Migrant Admission Scheme and has officially become a resident of Hong Kong.

  O'Sullivan, whose full name is Ronnie Antonio O'Sullivan, nicknamed "The Rocket," is a professional snooker player from England, born in December 1975. He holds numerous records in the sport, including being a co-holder of the most World Snooker Championship titles, with seven championships alongside Stephen Hendry.

  Vincent Law Wing-chung, chairman of the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Control Council, welcomed O'Sullivan's residency, stating that the local snooker community and fans are thrilled to have him. Vincent Law Wing-chung expressed hopes that if snooker maintains its A-grade status at the sports academy, there will be opportunities to invite O'Sullivan to engage with elite Hong Kong athletes and potentially provide guidance to support their development.

About the Hong Kong Quality Migrant Admission Scheme

  According to the Hong Kong Immigration Department's official website, the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme aims to attract high-skilled talent or exceptional individuals to settle in Hong Kong, thereby enhancing the region's competitiveness. All applicants who meet basic eligibility criteria can earn points through either a "General Points Test" or an "Achievement-Based Points Test," and approved applicants do not need a job offer from a Hong Kong employer prior to their arrival.

  The Achievement-Based Points Test is designed for individuals with extraordinary talent or skills and outstanding achievements. This points system has high requirements; applicants can score 245 points if they meet criteria such as having won significant awards (e.g., Olympic medals, Nobel Prizes, national/international accolades) or being recognized for their contributions to their field (e.g., receiving a lifetime achievement award from industry peers).
