Emerging technologies are characterized by radical novelty (in application even if not in origins), relatively fast growth, coherence, prominent impact, and uncertainty and ambiguity.
During COVID-19 early times in China, it is the use of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), big data, robotics, and blockchain that illustrate the extent to which IT can help manage and alleviate the effects of a major health crisis. AI has seen various applications. In China, AI software developed by Beijing start-up, Infervision, has been deployed at 34 hospitals, which are using it to analyse CT scans for signs of the virus.
Separately, both Alibaba and Baidu have both made their AI gene sequencing technologies available to research institutes, which were used to find a vaccine and other treatments for the virus. Other applications of AI include surveillance cameras that are able to measure body temperatures, and which use body and facial data to identify individuals.
Robotics is also being leveraged, with robots deployed in hospitals to sterilize quarantined wards. Meituan-Dianping, an online food retailer, has used autonomous vehicles to deliver groceries within Beijing's Shunyi district, launched "contactless delivery" in various parts in China.
China has been investing hundreds of billions of dollars in emerging technologies. It's expected that China will become a global dominant in most emerging technologies by 2035. Many Chinese cities and governments are setting up policies to attract foreign talents in these sectors; hence, these WeChat communities will help connect people of the same interest; a place to share latest development and trends, and to find opportunities in China.
The below WeChat groups are probably the first of its kind in China, it will continue to grow gradually and offer a unique connecting opportunity to its members.
NOTE: These groups are open for both expats and Chinese friends who like to connect with expats in these industries.
So what you are waiting for?
