On September 19th, Tu Lei, deputy director of Digestive Medicine in Wuhan Union Hospital, was praised by mainstream Chinese media, and won the hearts of lots of netizens.
On the morning of September 15th, Dr. Tu and her 4-year-old daughter were on the D2242 train, coming back to Wuhan from Nanchang. At about 12 oclock, Dr. Tu, who was playing with her daughter in carriage 8, rushed to the scene with her child holding in arms when she heard the call out for emergency medical assistance on the train's radio. When arriving on the scene, she saw a 13-year-old boy, Chen Junlun, lying powerlessly by the window with his left hand over his stomach, breathing fast and looking pale.
She immediately examined the boy and diagnosed him as having acute appendicitis, peritonitis, abdominal infection and septic shock. Dr. Tu told the boy's father, Chen Guangling, that his son was seriously ill and needed to be sent to a nearby hospital for rescue.
Extreme Financial Difficulties
Chen Guangling was in a dilemma without saying anything. He was a farmer in Xianfeng County, Hubei Province. Due to poverty, he had to work in Fujian all year round and was tasked with cutting bamboo to support his family.
His total income in the first half of 2019 was only 4,000 Yuan.
Sadly, in such poor family, Chen Junlun was found to have idiopathicthrombocytopenicpurpura(ITP) at the age of 3, which caused him to have nosebleeds and fainting. There was also a 4-year-old daughter for him to raise. As to cure his son, all the savings have been spent, and he also borrowed a lot of money from others.
On September 14th, Chen Junlun was treated in a county-level hospital in Fujian for abdominal pain, but doctors found that his platelets were too low to have an operation.
The attending physician in Fujian suggested them to transfer his son to a larger hospital. No other way out, he and his wife decided to take their son back to Enshi for treatment.
