The boy has had a tough life. He was abandoned by his mother shortly following his birth and his father also left home soon after that in Hongcheng village.
"His father seldom comes back and only we two live together," Xu Wenchang, 55, Yangyang's grandfather, told local media. "Unfortunately, I am in poor health and unable to take care of him."
After his grandfather suffered severe rheumatism and became paralyzed and confined to bed in 2017, Yangyang began to learn how to do housework at only 3 years of age.
"I can only stay in bed and tell him how to do it," said Xu. "He is quite clever and learns everything quickly, from operating the washing machine to cooking some easy dishes."
The little boy is about 1 meter high, so he has to stand on a small stool to take the clothes out of the washing machine. The electric cooker has also been put on the ground for his convenience.
Before August 2018, Yangyang spent one year in kindergarten, but he had to drop out to look after his grandfather at home.
"He had to help me put on my clothes, brush my teeth and even turn me over," said Xu. "If there is some trouble he can't solve, he will call somebody for help."
In spite of living a hard life, Yangyang and his grandfather are still quite optimistic and positive.
"My happiest time is chatting freely with my little grandson," Xu said.
With the help of the local government and volunteers, Xu was sent to a hospital in Harbin, the province's capital city, for treatment.
On August 29, he underwent surgery in the hospital.
"The doctor told me that some of the functions in my hands and feet would be restored after about one year of rehabilitation," he said.
"Now my biggest wish is to take care of Yangyang in the future. I will send him to school and return him back to a happy childhood."
