On June 14th, a video about a German man named Max, who built a blueberry orchard in Lishui, Nanjing went viral among netizens. It is known that China is famous for its vast territory and abundant resources, so many people questioned: Why? Why not just buy some blueberries?

Well, here is the answer to that....

German Man in China

In 2008, Max decided to stay in China, for 1 year to work, and to improve his Chinese at Nanjing Normal University.

During the time, he met the love of his life, a local Girl. As time went by, they realized that they were meant to be and thus they got married.

As time went on, they had a son and a daughter. Yet, during the years, Max worked in the field of foreign trade and even tried his hand at owning a cake shop. Unfortunately, both of the jobs didn't bring him any joy.

Three years ago, one thing changed his entire life path...

Love and Knowledge

At the time, Max found that both of his children were very fond of electronic products, and they spent most of their time on their phones. This made him worry about their future.

As he grew up in a knowledgeable family, who focused on health and food, Max knew that blueberries were very good for maintaining eye health.

Thus, he made up his mind, and decided to be a blueberry peasant in Nanjing, and to start a business for the sake of his children.

Actually, this wasnt the first time he started a business for the same reason. In his past, he opened a cake shop for a good reason. When he was young, he contracted food poisoning from the cream in a cake shop, which fueled his efforts in his adult life.

As a dad, Max valued nothing more than his kids well-beings, and this was his top motivation. Besides, his childhood experience also enabled him to run the business as he used to spend a lot of time in an organic blueberry garden in Germany, which his father owned.

Idea and Fruit

When planning his idea, and turning it into reality, he couldn't take any short cuts. Everything had to be done, step by step.

First, was to find a suitable farm, which was a task that took 2 years for Max to complete. After twists and turns, Max eventually found a place in Shitouzhai Village, Baima Town, Lishui District, Nanjing.

The area he chose, had a lot of fresh air and sunshine, which made it ideal for growing blueberries. However, he soon encountered an issue as he underestimated the inconvenience traveling in such a rural area.

The area was quite isolated, which made his efforts to deliver blueberries difficult. Unfortunately, this situation caused his sales to decline.

Just as Max was struggling to find another plantation, things turned around as the local government started to develop the roads of the area. The new road was quite wide and easy to drive on, which made his sales improve.

With his attitude of never giving up, Max was on the road to success.

Achievements and Future

In 2018, Max reached a sales record of 400,000 Yuan, including the online sales. This year, he expected to produce 6,000 kg of fruit in his 50-mu land (1 mu=0.0667 hectares).

"Next, My goal is to build a multi-functional and integrated farm through crowdsourcing. So, it can provide not only a larger market for blueberries, but also create a small world for young kids to be close to nature. I am confident about the future and I will help more parents and locals to become successful. Max said.
