The Flight Returned to Shanghai

The aircraft was operating flight TG663 from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

After noticing the damage, the pilots contacted air traffic control and requested permission to return to Shanghai. Because the aircraft was still carrying a significant amount of fuel, the crew reportedly remained in the air for a period of time and released fuel to reduce the aircraft’s landing weight.

The aircraft then landed safely at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Safety Checks Before the Aircraft Can Fly Again

A cracked cockpit windshield requires the aircraft to undergo safety checks and a technical assessment before it can return to service. Thai Airways has not yet announced the official cause of the damage.

The Flight Was Later Cancelled

According to flight information from the Flight Manager app, TG663 departed Shanghai Pudong at 8:41 a.m. on November 4. It was originally scheduled to arrive in Bangkok at 11:55 a.m.

Instead, the aircraft returned to Shanghai at 10:17 a.m. The flight was later listed as cancelled at 2:11 p.m.

The aircraft was a Boeing 787-9 wide-body jet. Flight data showed that it had been in service for approximately nine years and had operated 30 flights during the previous 30 days.

The incident caused a significant delay for passengers traveling from Shanghai to Bangkok, although the aircraft landed safely and no injuries were reported in the original report.
