Shanghai fog in Chongming and Jiading (visibility under 1,000m), 17°C–24°C Friday; cold air from Sunday evening raises pollution risk—close windows.
Tags:Shanghai Weather Alert: Fog Now, Pollution Risk and a Sudden Cold-Air Shift Ahead
Shanghai is moving through a sharp autumn weather change. Friday began with clear to partly cloudy skies, but several districts also saw morning fog and reduced visibility. A stronger cold-air system is expected to arrive from Sunday evening.
Morning Fog Reduced Visibility
According to the Shanghai weather service, fog developed in parts of Chongming and Jiading during the early morning. Visibility in some places fell below 1,000 metres. The fog was most noticeable before the daytime weather gradually became clearer.
The forecast for October 30 called for sunny to partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures of about 17°C to 24°C. Winds were expected to come from the northwest at light to moderate strength. That means the city can feel comfortable in the afternoon while still being cool when people leave home early.
Air Quality Has Become Part of the Conversation
The latest local weather discussion has focused on more than temperature. When the air is stable and wind is weak, pollutants can remain concentrated near the ground. This is why the warning circulating among Shanghai residents has mentioned closing windows and reducing unnecessary outdoor activity while conditions are poor.
The situation is not being described as a typhoon or a major rainstorm. Instead, fog, air pollution and changing winds may appear close together, with conditions varying from one district to another.

Residents are being reminded to follow the latest district-level weather and air-quality updates as the cold air moves in.
