What the Three Sirens Mean
The three warning signals used in the tests have different meanings:
1. Advance Warning
This signal is used when a city may face an air attack, alerting people to prepare for air-defense measures.
It consists of 36 seconds of sound followed by 24 seconds of silence, repeated three times, for a total of three minutes.
2. Air-Raid Warning
This signal indicates that an air attack is imminent or has already begun, calling on people to quickly evacuate and seek shelter.
It consists of six seconds of sound followed by six seconds of silence, repeated 15 times, also lasting three minutes.
3. All Clear
This signal indicates that the threat of an air attack has passed and that people can begin dealing with its aftermath and resume normal work and daily activities.
It is sounded continuously for three minutes.
Daily Life Will Continue as Normal
Authorities have emphasized that the siren tests will not generally disrupt normal production, daily life or social activities.
During the testing periods, some communities, government offices and schools may conduct additional air-defense exercises, including evacuation and sheltering drills and exercises for dealing with the aftermath of an air attack.
