China’s Central Meteorological Observatory continued an orange typhoon warning at 6 a.m. on August 26 as Typhoon Saudel entered the East China Sea.
Shanghai will feel the storm mainly through wind, with rain less significant.
Here is what Shanghai can expect:
Wednesday, Aug 26
Cloudy with brief localized showers. Northeast winds will pick up from force 3–4 to 4–5 during the morning, with gusts up to force 6 along the Yangtze River estuary and coastal areas. The high will be 34°C, with high humidity making it feel muggy.
Thursday, Aug 27
Winds strengthen further from midday, reaching force 7–8 in the city and 8–9 along the river and coastal areas. Intermittent showers or thunderstorms are likely, with localized heavy rain of 25–45 mm possible.
Friday, Aug 28
Wind and rain ease from evening into late night.

Typhoon Saudel’s center was about 710 km southeast of Shanghai’s Nanhuizui early Wednesday. It is forecast to move toward the Zhejiang-Fujian coast, with landfall expected between Zhejiang’s Xiangshan and Fujian’s Fuqing from Thursday night to Friday morning.
Through Saturday, Shanghai will remain mostly cloudy with scattered showers and temperatures between 28°C and 33°C. A more significant rain event is likely Sunday into Monday as cooler and warmer air masses interact, with highs dropping below 30°C.
Residents are advised to monitor short-term forecasts and continue heat precautions in the humid weather.
