A heartwarming rescue unfolded at Shanghai’s historic Yuyuan Garden on July 30, when several foreign visitors joined hands with the family of a female tourist to pull her to safety after she accidentally fell into the water.

The incident happened at around 12:20 p.m. while visitors were exploring the scenic area. The entire rescue took about one and a half minutes, with multiple people quickly responding to the emergency and working together to bring the woman back onto the stone walkway.

Jiang, who recorded the scene on her phone, told reporters on July 31 that she was visiting Yuyuan Garden when she suddenly noticed a foreign tourist in a white shirt running toward a bridge.

“That was when I realized a female visitor had accidentally fallen into the water,” Jiang recalled.

According to Jiang, the moment the woman fell, a foreign tourist wearing a red T-shirt immediately reached out and grabbed her hand. Soon afterward, the woman’s family members and several other foreign visitors rushed over to help.

During the rescue, people knelt and leaned over the edge of the walkway, holding onto the woman’s arms and legs as they worked together to pull her up.

“The whole process was very fast,” Jiang said. “From the moment she fell into the water to when she was brought back onto the walkway, it took only about one and a half minutes.”

The woman was frightened but did not suffer any serious injuries. After being rescued, she and her family expressed their gratitude to the foreign visitors who helped.

Jiang’s video of the rescue was later shared online and attracted widespread attention. “I found the scene very touching. Kindness knows no borders,” she said.

After helping with the rescue, the foreign visitors stayed at Yuyuan Garden and continued their visit.
