A routine driver’s license renewal in Hefei, Anhui, turned into an online puzzle this week – and it’s got thousands of people second‑guessing their own eyesight.
On August 18, a local driver in Hefei, Anhui, was renewing his license when he came across a color blindness test chart that was nearly impossible to make out.
He posted the image on his WeChat Moments, saying: "I'm pretty sure I'm not color blind, but I stared at it for a long time before I could make it out." Among his 20 friends who commented, only 7 got the right answer.

The machine, which pulls random plates from the official national colour blindness atlas, asks you to identify numbers on five images. Mess up twice and you're out – but you can retry. Fair enough. Except this one particular plate seems designed by someone with a grudge.
Local journalists got curious. They sent the same picture to 24 people via WeChat. Only 6 nailed it. Then they fed it to an AI. The AI squinted its digital eyes and confidently spat out: “816”.
The correct answer? 820. But the "2" is oddly distorted, making it hard to recognize. Some netizens adjusted the color of the image to see the number more clearly.
Social media exploded with guesses, ranging from "816" to other numbers not even listed in the machine's options. The driver eventually passed, but his post has become a viral talking point across Chinese internet.
