Qi Meng arrived in Thailand on August 2 on flight MH784 from Kuala Lumpur after spending about a week travelling in Malaysia. It was reportedly her first trip abroad.
According to her friend, Chinese influencer Chen Ze, Qi accepted an offer from an unknown person who said they could drive her to Chiang Mai. She lost contact with friends and family shortly after entering the vehicle.
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand confirmed on August 11 that Qi’s family had contacted the embassy for assistance. Officials said the family had been advised on how to report the disappearance to Thai police and that the embassy would continue providing support.
Friends have shared urgent appeals online asking for information about her whereabouts. Some have even asked anyone holding her to make contact so they can discuss her safe return.
However, several unusual details have raised questions online. The IP address connected to one missing-person appeal reportedly appeared to originate from Cambodia, while other reports claimed Qi may have originally planned the trip with a man she had recently met online.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, and authorities have not publicly confirmed that she was kidnapped.
Qi Meng remains missing as the investigation continues.
