- Summer Camp Recap
At the beginning of the summer, our Chinese Summer Camp students arrived at the opening ceremony as a group of strangers.
Different countries,
different languages,
different personalities —
and perhaps a few nervous smiles as everyone wondered what the next two weeks would bring.
Then, somehow, the time flew by.
After weeks of Chinese classes,
adventures,
games,
meals,
and countless shared experiences,
our final batch of campers has officially graduated from Chinese Summer Camp 2026!
And when everyone gathered for the closing ceremony, it was a very different picture: familiar faces, inside jokes, new friendships, and lots of happy memories to look back on 💛
Diving Into
the Chinese Culture
Learning Chinese at camp was never just about sitting in a classroom.
Throughout the summer, campers got hands-on with Chinese culture through a whole range of activities.
They tried so, so many new things!
🟡 Mahjong
🟡 Calligraphy
🟡 Traditional Chinese paintings
🟡 Pottery
🏺
🟡 Making Beijing Opera masks
🟡 Making Shadow puppets
Dressing Up
in Hanfu
Campers also got to step into traditional Chinese costumes and experience what it was like to dress up in styles from different periods of Chinese history.
Every activity offered a new way to discover China—and, of course, plenty of opportunities to learn some new Chinese along the way!
Time to Cook 🧑🍳
Some of the most delicious lessons happened in the kitchen.
Campers made traditional Chinese dishes and snacks, learning about the traditions behind them, and getting their hands messy in the process.
🌕 Mooncakes
🥟 Dumplings
🐲 Zongzi
And the best part? They got to eat what they made! 😋
...and Time
to Eat Out 🥢
There were also plenty of opportunities to try Chinese food outside the classroom, from local restaurants to shared meals with friends.
By the end of camp, everyone had probably discovered at least one new favorite dish.
Sports 🏓
There was no shortage of ways to stay active, either.
Campers challenged each other over table tennis matches, tested their courage and strength while rock climbing, and took part in plenty of games and activities throughout the camp.
Whether they were competing, cheering each other on, or simply trying something new, there was always someone ready to join in.
Beyond the Classroom
Of course, you can't experience China without going out and exploring it.
Our campers visited museums, discovered traditional tea houses, and explored the cities on walks that turned everyday streets into language and culture lessons.
Exploring Suzhou
And some campers went even further—with a special field trip to Suzhou, where they had the chance to discover the city's famous gardens, canals, and cultural heritage.
Seeing China in person brought many of the things they had learned in class to life.
Celebrating
the Little Moments 🎂
And then there were all the moments that weren't on the schedule—but ended up becoming some of the most memorable.
Birthday celebrations, meals together, spontaneous games, late conversations, shared jokes, and cheering each other on through new challenges.
These are the moments that turn a summer camp into something more than just a program.
From 你好...
to 再见 💛
At the opening ceremony, everyone was still getting to know each other.
At the closing ceremony, saying goodbye suddenly felt much harder than saying 你好.
Over the course of the summer, our campers didn't just learn new Chinese words. They made friends from around the world, experienced new sides of Chinese culture, stepped outside their comfort zones, and created memories they'll take home with them.
And while Chinese Summer Camp 2026 may be officially over, we hope this is only the beginning of many more adventures in Chinese.
谢谢你们, dear campers —
and see you next summer!
