According to media reports on July 2, Shenzhen Customs recently intercepted a foreign traveler who had concealed marijuana at the bottom of a sock and was also carrying a heating device in a shoulder bag.

Customs officers said the traveler attempted to avoid inspection by deliberately walking on the side farthest from officers and pretending not to understand their questions. The suspicious behavior prompted further checks, and the individual was subsequently stopped for inspection.

During the examination, officers discovered marijuana hidden inside the bottom of a sock. A heating device was also found in the traveler’s shoulder bag. According to customs officials, the device was intended for a relatively rudimentary method of marijuana consumption, in which the substance is first ground into small particles and then heated for inhalation.

Laboratory testing confirmed that the marijuana and related residue carried by the traveler had a combined net weight of 0.89 grams. The case has since been transferred to the customs anti-smuggling authorities for further investigation and handling in accordance with the law.

Shenzhen Customs reminded travelers to comply with all relevant laws and regulations when entering or leaving the country, refrain from engaging in illegal activities, and stay away from drugs.
