No fatalities have been reported after a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Gaoxian County in Yibin City, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, early Monday, local authorities said.
As of 3:30 a.m. Monday, 13 people had suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment, while 196 others were relocated to safer areas.
Relief and emergency response work is progressing in an orderly manner, according to the Yibin earthquake relief command headquarters.
The quake hit at 12:12 a.m. Monday Beijing Time.
The China Earthquake Networks Center said the epicenter was located at 28.50 degrees north latitude and 104.69 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 6 kilometers.
Following the earthquake, the China Earthquake Administration launched a Level-III emergency response.
