Police Detain Organizer After “Adulterers in a Cage” Street Parade Exposed as Staged Online Stunt

Police in Miluo, Hunan Province, confirmed on Friday that a widely circulated video showing two women locked inside a metal cage and pushed through the street was not a real public punishment, but a staged vulgar stunt designed to attract online attention.

The video, posted online on Thursday, appeared to show several people parading a stainless-steel cage through a street in Miluo. Inside the cage were two masked women and a black dog. A paper sign placed above the cage read “adulterers,” while several men pushed the cage forward and a woman followed behind beating a gong. The scene quickly drew crowds of onlookers, many of whom filmed the incident, according to chinanews.com.

Following a police investigation, authorities found that a 38-year-old man surnamed He had organized the act. Since June 22, 2026, He allegedly gathered a woman surnamed Gong and eight others to repeatedly stage vulgar public performances in Miluo in an attempt to generate internet traffic and obtain improper benefits.

The Miluo Public Security Bureau said in a notice released on its official WeChat account early Friday that the stunt caused public controversy, disrupted social order, damaged public morality, and created a negative social impact.

Police have placed He, the main organizer and planner, under criminal detention in accordance with the law. Gong and eight other participants have been given administrative detention. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
