COMPETITION THEME
Over the next five to ten years, mobility and transportation systems will evolve towards integrated solutions, and ESG will transition from a compliance requirement to a key driver of market competitiveness and customer value. However, the industry still faces multiple challenges, including ecosystem synergy, the verifiability of carbon reduction , and the scalability of the circular economy.
This year's challenge focuses on:
How MICHELIN can leverage innovative business models to transform ESG from a compliance requirement into a growth engine, enabling the circular economy to achieve scalable implementation within future mobility scenarios.
Strategic Considerations
Scenario×Customer Selection (Where to Innovate)
Segment Selection: Identify the most promising mobility scenarios over the next 5–10 years (e.g., electrified fleets, smart logistics, low-altitude economy).
Customer Focus: Within the chosen scenarios, define 1–2 priority target customer segments and analyse their willingness to pay, decision-making logic, and procurement chains.
Value Definition: From the customer's perspective, define and quantify key success metrics (e.g., Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), operational reliability, carbon intensity, circular utilisation rate).
Solution & Business Model (How to Win)
How can solutions and business models be designed to convert circular value into customer-recognised commercial returns?
Proof & Communication (How to Prove & Tell)
How can circular outcomes be effectively translated into quantifiable, verifiable KPIs suitable for disclosure within customers' ESG reports?
How can a sustainable and scalable differentiated competitive advantage be built while systematically mitigating the risk of "greenwashing"?
