Ongoing regional instability has led to the closure of airspace in several Middle Eastern countries, causing widespread flight cancellations and rerouting. For expats in China, this means that international express services to and from the region are currently facing significant hurdles.
Carrier-Specific Updates
SF International: The company has officially suspended all international express and e-commerce services to and from multiple Middle Eastern countries until further notice. SF is currently prioritizing the delivery of packages already in transit as resources allow.
FedEx: All flights to and from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia have been suspended. While local pickup and delivery may continue in some areas, expect significant delays for any shipments entering or leaving these countries.
DHL: The closure of airspace and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz are impacting both air and sea freight. DHL has activated contingency plans, but the company warns that these regional disruptions may have a broader impact on global shipping cycles.
UPS: While UPS has not yet officially suspended its pickup and delivery services, they are monitoring the situation closely and implementing emergency response measures to maintain operations where possible.
According to industry insiders, the disruption is mainly affecting the international transport phase, where rerouted flights and blocked shipping lanes have tightened capacity and extended delivery times. Because new air shipments are struggling to enter the region, local logistics teams are shifting their focus to delivering existing stock already held in regional warehouses and handling city-to-city deliveries, ensuring that safety remains the top priority for couriers on the ground.
