According to media reports, Spanish surgeon Diego González Rivas has joked that he has "finally found true love" in China—though his supposed partner is an AI-powered robot.
González Rivas, a well-known thoracic surgeon from A Coruña in Spain's Galicia region, recently shared a series of humorous posts on social media describing a personal "turning point" in his life. In the videos, he says he has found love in China and is planning to get married. The twist, he explains with irony, is that his fiancée, named Giovana, is an artificial intelligence robot who also happens to be a highly popular online influencer.
Adopting a lighthearted tone, González Rivas introduces Giovana as the "perfect woman," praising her friendly personality, tall figure, good looks, and intelligence. He jokes that the couple has never argued. "We don't have to spend money on food, she can dance, and she's an influencer," he says, adding that Giovana has tens of millions of followers across social media platforms.
In the video, the robot actively interacts with him, complimenting him by saying, "You're so handsome," to which González Rivas replies, "Thank you, I love you." He then goes on to present another robot, Daniel, humorously describing it as the "child" born of his love with Giovana. "I'm very happy with this new family," he says with a laugh.
The post quickly drew widespread reactions online, with followers responding largely with jokes and amusement. This is not the first time González Rivas has shared playful content involving robots during his stays in China, where service and humanoid robots are increasingly visible in daily life. In October last year, he posted a video of himself "competing" against a robot, humorously conceding defeat to artificial intelligence.
Despite the joking tone of his social media content, González Rivas's professional work in China continues as planned. He has remained active on the medical front and recently conducted an experimental surgical masterclass at a training center in Lanzhou, underscoring that his lighthearted online persona runs in parallel with a serious and ongoing professional agenda.
