U.S. Embassy in China Halts Media Updates Due to Budget Impasse
On October 7, the U.S. Embassy in China announced a temporary suspension of its social media updates due to a funding lapse. The official WeChat and Weibo accounts of the embassy posted the following message:

"Because of the lapse in appropriations, this account will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information.
At this time, scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits. We will not update this account until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information. For information on our services and operating status, visit http://travel.state.gov."
Earlier, on October 3 at 1:23 PM Beijing time, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in China also posted the notice on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, reiterating that the account would not be regularly updated.
