On October 13, a tragic incident occurred in a residence in Shouson Hill Village, Hong Kong, where a mother and her infant daughter were found dead, sparking widespread public concern.

According to reports, on October 14, a duty news officer from the Hong Kong Police Force's Public Relations Branch confirmed that the deceased was a 34-year-old French woman who held a Hong Kong Identity Card. "She was found to have hanged herself with a belt, and her seven-month-old daughter was confirmed drowned. A suicide note was recovered at the scene," the officer said. "The case has been classified as 'infanticide and suicide' and is being investigated by the District Crime Squad of Western District."

Police said they received a report at 4:08 p.m. on October 13 from a French man who stated that his wife had hanged herself at their residence at 6A Shouson Hill Road, Shouson Garden. He also found their seven-month-old daughter unconscious in the kitchen. Emergency responders arrived shortly after and confirmed both the woman and the baby dead at the scene.

During a police briefing, the Assistant District Commander (Crime) of Western District said the woman was discovered in the walk-in closet of her bedroom, while rescuers found a small inflatable baby pool filled with water in the kitchen, where the infant was found drowned.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 34-year-old woman had ligature marks on her neck but no other visible injuries, and the infant also showed no apparent signs of trauma. A forensic examination indicated that both likely died from asphyxiation, though the exact causes of death will be determined through further autopsy.

Police confirmed that no third party was present in the flat at the time of the incident. They also disclosed that the woman had a history of depression, with signs of postpartum relapse, and had been receiving regular medical treatment. The seven-month-old girl was her first child.

The Hong Kong Police reiterated on October 14 that the case remains under investigation by the Western District Crime Squad and has been officially classified as "infanticide and suicide."
