On October 13, a tragic case involving the deaths of a mother and her infant daughter in Shouson Hill Village, Hong Kong, has sparked widespread public concern.

According to the Hong Kong Police Force's Public Relations Branch, the deceased woman was a 34-year-old French national who held a Hong Kong Identity Card. Authorities believe she died by suicide using a belt, while her 7-month-old daughter drowned. A suicide note was recovered at the scene. The case has been classified as "infanticide and suicide" and is currently under investigation by the Western District Crime Squad.

Police were alerted at 4:08 p.m. on October 13 by a foreign male reporting that his wife had hanged herself at their residence at 6A Shouson Hill Road, and that their daughter was unresponsive in the kitchen. Emergency responders pronounced both the mother and the baby dead at the scene.

During a press briefing, officials of the Western District Police said the mother was found in the walk-in closet of the home, while the baby girl was discovered submerged in a water-filled infant pool in the kitchen.

Preliminary examination showed marks on the mother's neck but no other significant injuries on either victim. A forensic pathologist suggested the cause of death for both was likely asphyxiation, although further autopsy results are pending.

Police confirmed that no third party was present in the home at the time of the incident. They also revealed the woman had a history of depression and had shown signs of postpartum relapse. She was still receiving regular medical treatment, and this was her first child.
