A woman has been detained after violently attacking security personnel at a Shenzhen metro station when she refused to undergo a routine bag check.

The incident took place on September 7 at the Science Museum Station in Shenzhen.

Surveillance and bystander videos show the woman ignoring instructions to pass through the mandatory security gate.

When approached by staff, she lashed out at a male guard, striking him repeatedly with her handbag. She also attacked a female official during the confrontation.

Despite being hit multiple times, the security guard did not retaliate.

Instead, he stepped back and attempted to de-escalate the situation.

At one point, the woman dramatically lay down on the floor, pretending to lose consciousness, in an apparent effort to avoid responsibility.

Police were called to the scene and placed the woman under administrative detention for disrupting public order and assaulting metro staff.

The Shenzhen Metro authority later commended its employees for acting in accordance with regulations and refraining from violence, even under provocation.

The incident quickly spread across Chinese social media, sparking heated debate.

Some netizens criticised the woman's aggressive behaviour and her attempt to "play dead" after attacking staff.

Others questioned why the guards did not defend themselves physically, while many praised their patience and restraint in handling the situation without escalation.

The case has become a reminder of both the challenges faced by frontline transport workers and the strict enforcement of public security rules in China's metro systems.
