Future-oriented Education
At YCIS Shanghai, they prepare students to thrive in an unpredictable world by equipping them with the skills, mindset, and courage to explore limitless possibilities.
Their AI Curriculum runs from Lower Primary to Upper Secondary and is rooted in four core dimensions: Engaging, Creating, Managing, and Designing AI. Younger students might start with simple recognition and interaction, while students in Upper Secondary progress to system analysis and design.
The curriculum is embedded in a unified Technology course that integrates Computer Science and Design & Technology, and is further enriched through interdisciplinary project-based learning.
Together, these experiences connect theory with practice and foster skills such as curiosity, adaptability, and creative problem-solving.
Building on this foundation, the school's dedicated EdFutures Division—part of the YCYW Education Network—provides Super-Curriculum Programs in collaboration with leading universities such as the University of Oxford and Tongji University, and with world-class institutions including the Shanghai Astronomy Museum.
These programs bring learning vividly to life, from AI-powered medical simulations and particle physics experiments to underwater robot building and AI-controlled smart farms.
Students have published research in peer-reviewed journals, spoken on the TEDx stage, and achieved outstanding results in international competitions.
Academic Excellence
YCIS Shanghai has long taken pride in its students' outstanding academic achievements, which reflect both their subject mastery and their readiness to thrive on the global stage.
The school's graduates have made their mark in top universities worldwide, from Oxford and Cambridge to Stanford and Cornell.
They have also excelled in diverse fields of study, attending prestigious institutions such as Parsons School of Design, the Berklee College of Music, and the Swiss Hotel Management School.
Diverse International Curriculum Pathways
At the early years level, we embrace the Yew Chung Approach to Early Childhood Education, nurturing children's growth across every dimension — social, emotional, cognitive, physical, creative, linguistic, and character. Young learners are encouraged to explore and play, laying the foundations for a lifelong love of learning.
As students progress to Primary and Lower Secondary levels, they follow the Yew Chung International Curriculum, a distinctive fusion of Eastern and Western educational philosophies. This unique approach not only strengthens academic skills but also fosters curiosity, independence, and a global mindset.
At the Upper Secondary level, we offer a wide range of international pathways, including IGCSE, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), and the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE).
Each pathway is carefully supported with structured teaching frameworks and personalised guidance, ensuring students thrive academically while exploring their passions.
Authentic Learning Opportunities
At the heart of YCYW's mission is a bold commitment: to align with Science and Technology, Culture and Arts, and Love and Charity.
We inspire our students to explore the wonders of Science, giving them countless opportunities to engage with cutting-edge technologies and to think like innovators.
In arts and culture, the energy is just as vibrant—we bring the stage and gallery to life with concerts, performances, theatre productions, exhibitions, and sports events.
Character development is just as central in a YCYW education. Beyond academics, students take part in weekly Life Skills and Wellness lessons where values such as compassion, integrity, and resilience are taught and practiced.
These principles are not confined to the classroom—they are woven into everyday experiences, shaping how students learn, play, and interact.
Through service-learning programmes, the students step into the wider world with empathy and a strong sense of responsibility, discovering the power and importance of contributing to their communities.
A Truly International Community
At YCIS Shanghai, young learners thrive within a dynamic, multicultural environment, with students coming from nearly 50 countries and regions. Every student is valued, every voice is heard, and all achievements are celebrated.
The school's distinctive approach seamlessly weaves Eastern and Western cultures into daily learning, ensuring students develop a deep understanding of their own heritage while embracing a broad global perspective.
Beyond the classroom, students experience the richness of cultural exchange firsthand through events such as Model United Nations (MUN), the International Food Festival, International Community Day, and the Christmas Fayre, where they encounter the vibrant collision and fusion of global cultures.
This spirit of inclusivity extends to every aspect of school life. With strong support systems in place—including EAL (English as an Additional Language) programs and Chinese language courses tailored to different proficiency levels—YCIS ensures that every student can participate fully, gain confidence, and reach their full potential both inside and outside the classroom.
This whole-child approach is also reflected in the school's dining services, where students enjoy nutritious and appealing meals that cater to diverse tastes and cultural needs, including Chinese and Western cuisines, halal options, and vegetarian choices. In this way, every child has access to healthy meals that respect their cultural and religious preferences.
93+ Years of Heritage
