According to a female employee from the workshop who reported the case to the police at around 11 am on Wednesday, she and five friends were taking a rest and having meals when a gang of 10 people stormed the gold and jewelry processing facility on the fourth floor of the Fu Hang Industrial Building on Hok Yuen Street East at around 5am and made off with an estimated 65 kilograms of the precious metal, including bars, bricks and powder, and HK$30,000 in cash, Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday.

After the robbers succeeded, they drove everyone present – including the female employee – out of the workshop, locked the workshop gate with an iron chain, and quickly fled. The female employee immediately called the company owner. Afterward, the workshop manager arrived at the scene, assessed the losses, and filed a report to the police at around 11 am.

The police promptly arrived, cordoned off and examined the scene, and retrieved surveillance footage from the workshop, the building, and surrounding public areas to launch an investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, the case has been classified as a robbery.

The police said the wanted mastermind and the person who reported the case were partners of the goldsmith workshop with shared business partners. By Thursday evening, 11 people had been arrested.
