WeChat has significantly reduced the minimum service fee for fund withdrawals to just 0.01 yuan, down from the previous threshold of 0.1 yuan.
On August 1, Tencent's customer service confirmed that the adjustment aims to support operational costs. The update was rolled out to all users on July 25.
According to public records, WeChat first introduced withdrawal fees in March 2016. Each user is granted a 1,000-yuan lifetime fee-free withdrawal quota. Once this limit is exceeded, a service fee of 0.1% is charged on the withdrawal amount, with a previous minimum fee of 0.1 yuan per transaction. This meant users were charged 0.1 yuan even when withdrawing as little as 0.01 yuan.
With the new update, the minimum fee is now reduced to 0.01 yuan per transaction, providing greater flexibility and fairness for users making small withdrawals.
Other WeChat functions, including transfers, face-to-face payments, red envelopes, and group bill-splitting (AA payments), remain free of charge.
