Knife Attack Near Primary School Leaves 2 Dead and 3 Injured

On the evening of August 3, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Leiyang City, Hunan Province, when a man armed with a knife launched a violent attack near Ruolan Primary School in the Caizichi Sub-district. According to a police bulletin released by the Leiyang Public Security Bureau, the assault occurred around 6:00 p.m. and resulted in two fatalities and three injuries.

On the evening of August 3, a witness told a reporter from Jimu News that the incident took place near the entrance of Ruolan Primary School in Leiyang. A man, approximately in his thirties, was seen attacking people with a knife. "He rushed in from the intersection, holding a knife and slashing people. He even stormed into a mahjong parlor and continued attacking," the witness said. After injuring several individuals, the man was apprehended.

Local police responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Duan. The injured victims were immediately transported to the hospital and are currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that none of the injured are in life-threatening condition.

This incident has shocked the local community and reignited discussions around public safety and mental health awareness. Residents are calling for increased security measures, especially around schools and public gathering places.
