On August 26, a foreign traveler raised concerns over the hygiene of steamed buns served by Sichuan Airlines, sparking heated discussion and sending the topic to Weibo's trending list.
According to online posts, some overseas users on social media platforms questioned the sanitary standards of Sichuan Airlines' in-flight meals. Their concerns focused on steamed buns and flower rolls being exposed to air and handed directly to passengers.
In response, Sichuan Airlines' customer service stated that in-flight meals are provided free of charge, and the menu varies depending on the route. Typically, meals are distributed in sealed containers. On previous occasions, roasted potatoes were handed out directly to passengers, but they were served with the skin intact. Regarding the distribution of unpackaged steamed buns, the airline representative said they were not yet aware of the specific details.
The customer service team added that the company is monitoring the trending discussions and will forward the concerns to the relevant departments for review.
The incident has sparked discussion among netizens about whether in-flight meals should be individually packaged. Some people prefer packaged meals and are sensitive to open distribution, seeing it as unhygienic. Others argue that certain buns are best eaten hot, and excessive packaging can affect taste; passengers who are concerned about hygiene can simply choose not to eat. Some netizens are questioning: would this way of serving food meet passengers' hygiene expectations?
