During the launch event, Hu Wei, General Manager of Shanghai Happy Valley, revealed a major development: Asia's first stand-up roller coaster has been officially confirmed for installation in the park. The groundbreaking thrill ride is expected to complete testing and open to the public by 2027.
Looking ahead, Shanghai Happy Valley plans to invest a total of 2.6 billion yuan over the next eight years in a four-phase upgrade project. The ambitious goal is to transform the park into the "national flagship store" of the Happy Valley brand.
Hu emphasized that the park will remain open during the upgrade period. The initial phase of construction, set to break ground within the year, will feature a comprehensive renovation of the Hurricane Bay area, anchored by the debut of the stand-up roller coaster.
"Some current areas of the park will undergo upgrades, which might temporarily affect a few attractions. However, we have already prepared additional performance shows and entertainment offerings to ensure a seamless visitor experience," said Hu.
He added that the transformation is not just about newer rides, but also about enhancing the immersive storytelling within the park. "We aim to collaborate with local Chinese intellectual properties (IP) to enrich the thematic depth and cultural resonance of the visitor journey."
