On July 16, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) of China held a press conference to release key immigration statistics for the first half of 2025.
According to the NIA, immigration authorities across the country processed a total of 333 million border crossings during the first six months of the year, marking a 15.8% year-on-year increase. Among them, foreign nationals accounted for 38.053 million entries and exits, up 30.2% compared to the same period last year. In total, 887,000 visas and related documents were issued to foreign nationals.
In the first half of the year, China introduced a visa-free entry policy for tour groups from ASEAN countries traveling to Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. Indonesia was also newly included in China's 144-hour visa-free transit policy. In coordination with relevant departments, the NIA actively advanced measures to facilitate payments, accommodations, and transportation for foreign nationals in China, significantly boosting cross-border exchanges and international trade cooperation. A total of 13.64 million foreign nationals entered China under visa-free policies, accounting for 71.2% of all foreign entries and representing a year-on-year increase of 53.9%.
The NIA's online service platform provided administrative services such as travel record inquiries to 89.87 million users, including Chinese and foreign nationals. Additionally, identity verification services were offered free of charge to 30.59 million individuals, including residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, overseas Chinese, and foreign nationals. The NIA's 12367 service hotline handled 3.519 million inquiries from users in over 100 countries and regions worldwide.
