Recently, a doctor gained widespread admiration after saving a one-year-old child, with the video of the rescue receiving numerous likes from netizens.
On July 9, Ms. Deng, the doctor involved, shared her experience with reporters. On the afternoon of June 27, Ms. Deng and her family were at the park. After playing basketball, they were preparing to leave when they suddenly heard frantic cries of "help! help!" Ms. Deng turned to see her friend and an elderly person trying to rescue a child, approximately one year old. They were repeatedly patting the child's back while the child's mother stood by in a state of panic.
Acting on her maternal instincts, Ms. Deng rushed over to assist. Upon assessing the situation, she saw that the child's lips and face were blue, his limbs limp, and his breathing weak. Her first thought was that the child might have something stuck in his throat. However, the child's mother explained that the child hadn't eaten anything recently, though he had been suffering from a cold and had a fever the night before.
Drawing on her years of medical experience, Ms. Deng quickly determined that the child was suffering from asphyxiation caused by a mucus plug blocking his airway. She immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver to clear the obstruction, applying chest compressions while instructing those around her to support the child's head. Two minutes later, the child began to gasp for air, and Ms. Deng was relieved to see him recovering. The fire department arrived shortly thereafter, and the child was no longer in danger. The child's mother expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Deng before they left.
This quick and effective intervention not only saved the child's life but also highlighted the importance of timely medical action in emergencies.
