A growing number of airports across major Chinese cities are imposing restrictions on ROMOSS-branded power banks due to safety concerns.
On June 23, journalists contacted airports in Wuhan, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, and Chengdu to inquire about the latest security inspection policies regarding portable chargers. Several airports confirmed that ROMOSS products, along with other power banks deemed hazardous, are now subject to heightened scrutiny or outright bans.
Certain Power Banks Now Prohibited on Flights
Staff at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport confirmed that security teams have received updated directives requiring enhanced inspections of power banks from brands such as ROMOSS. Passengers are urged to check their devices beforehand to ensure they do not pose potential safety risks.
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport have also explicitly banned hazardous power banks. Staff stated that all power banks identified as safety risks will be prohibited from being carried on board and will be collected and disposed of accordingly.
At Shanghai Pudong International Airport, officials indicated no formal notice had been issued regarding changes in policy. Current regulations remain unchanged, but staff advised passengers to avoid carrying any power banks that might present safety hazards.
Beijing Daxing International Airport stated that its security standards for power banks have not changed. Passengers may carry power banks with a rated energy not exceeding 100Wh without airline approval. Devices between 100Wh and 160Wh require prior approval from the airline, with a maximum of two power banks allowed per passenger. Devices exceeding 160Wh are strictly prohibited.
ROMOSS Power Banks Under Scrutiny, Some Units Recalled
No official announcement has been made by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) regarding new nationwide regulations for power bank inspections. Existing policies remain in place.
On June 18, Shenzhen ROMOSS Technology Co., Ltd. issued a public notice announcing a voluntary recall of over 490,000 mobile power bank units from specific batches. According to the company, certain battery cells used in these products may pose risks under extreme conditions. The recall was initiated in coordination with relevant market regulatory authorities.
As of June 23, public records on China's national certification platform show that the 3C (China Compulsory Certification) status for a number of ROMOSS power bank models has been suspended. The 3C certification is a mandatory safety standard designed to protect consumer rights and product safety.
Currently, ROMOSS power banks appear to have been removed from major Chinese e-commerce platforms and are temporarily unavailable for purchase.
