The typhoon could make landfall between Lingshui and Ledong on Hainan Island from the early morning to noon of June 13, with winds of 25-30 meters per second (Category 10-11 strength).
The storm will then make a second landfall in western Guangdong and coastal Guangxi on June 14, weakening as it moves northeastward after landfall.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
From June 12 to June 14, South China will experience heavy to torrential rainfall, with some regions facing even more extreme downpours. The period from June 12 at 8 a.m. to June 13 at 8 a.m. will see heavy rain in northern and central-western Guangdong, much of Hainan, and Taiwan. Some areas of southeastern Hainan and Taiwan may experience rainfall exceeding 100-150 millimeters.
Winds will reach 6-8 levels in most parts of the South China Sea, Beibu Gulf, Qiongzhou Strait, and islands like the Xisha, Nansha, and Zhongsha groups, with gusts up to 9-11 levels in areas near the typhoon's center.
Emergency Response Upgraded
In light of the storm's expected severity, the China Meteorological Administration has upgraded its emergency response from a level 4 to a level 3, issuing a yellow warning for the typhoon. The emergency measures aim to mitigate potential damage and ensure public safety.
Orange Wave and Blue Storm Surge Warnings
The Ministry of Natural Resources has issued an orange wave warning, predicting giant to storm waves in the western South China Sea, and large to giant waves near the eastern and southern coastlines of Hainan. At the same time, blue storm surge warnings remain in place for Guangdong and Hainan.
School Closures in Hainan
Due to Typhoon Wutip, several cities in Hainan, including Sanya, Dongfang, Changjiang, Qionghai, Wanning, Ledong, Baoting, Qiongzhong, and Lingshui, have announced school closures.
Shanghai's Weather Impact
For Shanghai, the weather will be mainly cloudy to overcast on Friday and Saturday, with light rain showers occasionally. The temperature will rise, with a high of 31°C expected on Saturday. Humidity will make the heat feel oppressive.
Around Sunday, as the typhoon weakens, the city will experience a noticeable period of rainfall. By early next week, the subtropical high will strengthen and move north, bringing a brief dry spell with temperatures nearing 34°C. However, it will remain essential to manage heat prevention while also tackling humidity and mold, as rainfall is expected to return by mid-week.
Stay informed and take necessary precautions, especially in affected areas, to minimize risk from the typhoon.
