School require student to lower pants for menstrual pain leave。。

A university in Beijing has sparked widespread outrage after a student claimed she was asked to pull down her pants to prove she was menstruating in order to receive sick leave. The incident occurred at the Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology, a private undergraduate college affiliated with one of China's top public universities.

On May 15, the student posted a video online showing her interaction with a campus clinic staff member. In the video, the student asks, "So what you are saying is, every woman on her period has to take off her pants and show you to get a leave note?" The staff member responds, "Basically, yes. It is not my personal rule, it is a regulation." The student then demands written proof of the policy, but the staff member refuses and directs her to a hospital instead.

The university issued a statement on May 16 defending the staff member's actions, stating that the clinic staff followed proper protocols. They claimed the policy was intended to prevent the abuse of sick leave, as some students had repeatedly claimed menstrual issues to request leave. A staff member, surnamed Xu, told CNR News that the rule was introduced after cases where students requested leave multiple times a month for menstrual discomfort.

The incident has sparked intense backlash on social media, with users calling the policy "humiliating," "tyrannical," and "harassment." Many have criticized the university for its intrusive approach and lack of respect for students' privacy. Legal experts have also weighed in, suggesting the university's actions may violate privacy rights under China's Civil Code and the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests.

The student later posted another video stating she had visited a hospital and obtained the necessary documentation. She continued to call for a reasonable and respectful policy for menstrual leave, emphasizing that if the school has a written rule requiring such proof, she would delete her video. Otherwise, she vowed to continue her advocacy.

The controversy has reignited discussions about the need for clear and respectful policies regarding menstrual-related sick leave in educational institutions.
