Shanghai is bracing for its first major downpour of the flood season, with heavy rain expected from late May 31 through the morning of June 2

The city's meteorological bureau confirms that a developing surface cyclone will trigger the rainfall, peaking between midday June 1 and early June 2. Cumulative rainfall could reach 50–80 mm citywide, with localized downpours of up to 110 mm in areas like Pudong, Chongming, Jinshan, and Fengxian. Weak thunderstorms may also occur.

Winds are set to intensify, reaching gusts of 6–7 on land and 8–10 along coastal and riverfront areas, including Yangshan Port.

Temperatures will drop significantly. Children's Day (June 1) is expected to see highs of just 20–22°C, with a slight rebound to 25°C on June 2 afternoon as rain tapers off. Despite the cool air, high humidity and low pressure may cause discomfort.

Weather Tips:

Rain ProtectionExpect heavy showers, especially overnight on June 1. Watch out for short-term flooding. Stay tuned to real-time traffic and weather updates.

Wind Safety: Strong winds may disrupt waterway traffic. Secure loose items at home and avoid standing near billboards or scaffolding.

Dress Smart: Adjust clothing to cope with the temperature drop and wet conditions.
