The voice on the line trembled: "My 2-year-old child is having convulsions."

The call came from a foreign mother, terrified and helpless, unable to speak Chinese. At the other end was dispatcher Sun Yushi, who instantly recognized the urgency and calmly switched to English to communicate.

Remaining composed under pressure, Sun reassured the mother while gathering critical information about the child's condition and location. But language barriers and the urgency of the moment demanded an even faster solution. Thinking quickly, Sun asked the mother if she could use WeChat. Once confirmed, they added each other, and the mother shared her exact location.

"Once I got the address, I dispatched the ambulance right away," Sun recalls. "The mother asked if she should wait at the gate, but I told her to stay inside and keep the door open."

Meanwhile, Sun continued to guide the mother through the waiting process, offering medical tips and reassurance to help her stay calm. Thanks to her timely response and thoughtful support, the ambulance arrived swiftly, and the child received proper medical attention. The child's condition has since stabilized.

Sun Yushi credits her English skills to her school education and extra time spent learning medical vocabulary after joining the emergency dispatch team. "I studied on my own to better handle these types of situations," she said humbly.
