A deputy chief surgeon surnamed Xiao from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing has been terminated from his role and removed from the Communist Party after his wife reported his multiple extramarital affairs with colleagues.
The hospital confirmed the accusations and his dismissal in an official statement released on 27th April.
Xiao's wife revealed that they had been married for years and shared a daughter, but during their marriage, he engaged in multiple affairs, which reportedly led to several pregnancies.
In early 2019, he frequently met with a thoracic surgery nurse named Shi at various hotels, resulting in two pregnancies in three months—both ending in miscarriage.
After Shi's husband discovered the affair, Xiao reportedly wrote a letter promising to stay away.
Last June, Xiao began another relationship with Dong, a resident in urology. By September, Dong was pregnant, and the pair rented an apartment together.
Xiao accompanied her to prenatal visits during working hours and later introduced her to his parents.
He was also reported to have had inappropriate relationships with a human resources employee and another nurse from the thoracic surgery department, often seen with them at hotels.
In addition to his personal misconduct, Xiao was also accused of professional negligence.
On one occasion, he allegedly left an anaesthetised patient unattended in the operating room for 40 minutes due to being in a bad mood, and demanded a nurse be replaced.
Xiao, who holds a doctorate in surgery from Peking University Health Science Centre and was previously a visiting scholar in the U.S., had joined the hospital in 2012 and rose through the ranks to become a deputy chief surgeon specialising in pulmonary care.
