On March 6, multiple videos surfaced online showing a man standing on a dining table and urinating directly into a hotpot. The footage quickly spread across social media, sparking outrage among netizens.

Responding to the incident, Haidilao's official Weibo account issued a statement on March 6, declaring that they had reported the case to the police in multiple regions and were fully cooperating with authorities to trace the individuals responsible. The company emphasized that, regardless of whether the act was staged, they would pursue legal accountability to the fullest extent.

According to the Shanghai Public Security Bureau Huangpu Branch, a Haidilao restaurant in their jurisdiction reported the incident on March 6. After a thorough investigation, authorities determined that the incident occurred on February 24, in the early hours of the morning. Tang and Wu, both visitors from outside the city, were dining in a private room at the restaurant when they became heavily intoxicated. Subsequently, both men stood on the dining table and urinated into the hotpot. Wu then uploaded the footage online, further fueling public outrage.

Following the investigation, the Shanghai police imposed administrative detention on both individuals in accordance with the law.

On the same day as the police announcement, Haidilao released another official statement on Weibo. The company assured the public that the affected restaurant had replaced all hotpot equipment and tableware. Additionally, they conducted a thorough, deep-cleaning disinfection of the restaurant to uphold hygiene and safety standards.
