Store Apologizes to Chinese Consulate for Racist Incident Involving Customer
According to a message from the WeChat account of the Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch, Fergburger, a popular burger restaurant in Queenstown, New Zealand, issued an apology on February 20th after a racist incident involving a Taiwanese tourist.

On February 17th, the customer received a receipt that contained discriminatory language during their meal at the Fergburger outlet.
Fergburger's management made it clear that they deeply regret the incident and have taken immediate and comprehensive action to address the issue. This includes conducting an internal investigation, offering a formal apology to the affected customer, and implementing additional training for all staff to ensure respect for diverse cultures. The restaurant also emphasized that it takes the incident very seriously, with the employee involved being terminated.
In their letter to the consulate, Fergburger assured that steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, and they pledged to uphold their commitment to a more inclusive and respectful environment for all customers.
The Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch responded by thanking the restaurant for their swift action and urged them to ensure that such an incident would never happen again.
