A four-year-old girl in rural China, known as Yaoyao, has captured the hearts of millions with her carefree and adorable nature, earning her the nickname "electric daughter" and amassing 21 million followers online. Her parents began sharing videos of her daily life on Douyin in 2021, and she quickly became an internet sensation after a video of her crying at midnight went viral in 2022, showcasing her mother's efforts to comfort her.
Yaoyao's chubby cheeks and delightful expressions have become the subject of countless memes, making her a beloved figure on social media. Her family lives in a village in Tongren, Guizhou province, and her Douyin account has received over 580 million likes across 460 videos.
In early February, Yaoyao was featured on a culinary program by state broadcaster CCTV, where she introduced two popular Guizhou snacks: zhe er gen (a pungent, peppery plant) and zhu er pa (a type of small steamed bun). Dressed in a simple floral jacket and with a bit of mud on her face from playtime, Yaoyao charmed both the show's guests and the audience at home.
Viewers were captivated by her natural charisma. "She is like a seasoned artist at four, exuding a sense of relaxation," remarked one online observer. Another expressed admiration, saying, "I wonder what food she eats that brings her such happiness every day."
Yaoyao's purity and joy have resonated with many, drawing comparisons to the innocence expected of a small child. Even the People's Daily shared a video of her in 2022, describing it as "healing." The footage showed the then two-year-old Yaoyao sitting on a stone pier, happily eating rice by herself, occasionally shaking her head and wagging her legs with glee.
