A dispute has erupted over unpaid fees between foreign singer Tang Bohu (Annie Lowdermilk) and stylist Mr. Zheng, with claims of ¥17,000 in outstanding payments.
A dispute has surfaced between foreign singer Tang Bohu (Annie Lowdermilk) and stylist Mr. Zheng, with claims of unpaid styling fees amounting to ¥17,000. The singer, known for participating in the Chinese variety show "Sister Who Makes Waves 4," and her studio, Taohua Xian Ge, have been accused of withholding payments for services rendered. The unpaid amount includes ¥7,000 owed directly by Tang Bohu and ¥10,000 owed by her studio.
  • Claims of Unpaid Fees and Lack of Communication
According to Mr. Zheng, he had been working with Tang Bohu for nearly two years, providing styling services including hair and makeup for her live streams. However, the situation took a turn when Tang Bohu and her studio had internal disputes, with the singer reportedly moving to Shanghai while the studio returned to Beijing, leaving Mr. Zheng stranded in Suzhou.
Despite repeated attempts to contact Tang Bohu, including phone calls and messages, Mr. Zheng claimed she did not respond. He only received a reply after he suggested returning the clothes he had provided for a performance in Ganzhou. According to a conversation from August 2024, Tang Bohu confirmed the clothes were needed but the fees remained unpaid.
  • Legal Actions and Challenges
After numerous failed attempts to resolve the matter amicably, Mr. Zheng filed a lawsuit against the studio for breach of contract. The Chengdu Free Trade Zone People's Court officially accepted the case on November 21, 2024, though no court date has been set yet.
Mr. Zheng also intends to pursue legal action against Tang Bohu herself, but is facing challenges due to the lengthy legal process for foreign artists, compounded by the lack of evidence regarding her residence. A legal notification issued by the Chaoyang District People's Court in October 2024 stated that they could not take jurisdiction over the case due to insufficient proof of Tang Bohu's residence or where the contract was executed.
  • Studio's Comments and Singer's Response
In response to the accusations, Taohua Xian Ge Studio issued a statement in which they explained the situation from their perspective. They confirmed that Tang Bohu had left abruptly after an advertisement shoot on August 7, 2024, leading to operational disruptions within the studio. They also mentioned difficulties in communicating with the singer and the studio's legal representative, which contributed to the delay in payments to staff and service providers.
Tang Bohu, when contacted by reporters, denied the accusations, stating that there were aspects of the situation unknown to the public and asserting that the claims were not entirely accurate. She added that her staff would follow up on the matter, but no further responses had been provided at the time of publication.
As of now, the situation remains unresolved, with both the studio and Mr. Zheng awaiting further developments.
