Tourists spark outrage after leaving Japanese guesthouse a mess

A group of mainland Chinese tourists turned an Osaka guest house into a "scrapyard" after their three-day stay, causing public outrage in both Japan and China. On November 23, a Japanese blogger who goes by the alias @roketdan2 reported on X that five Chinese travelers abandoned the guest house in a state of disarray between November 18 and 21.The blogger's photos show the three-bedroom homestay, Shirakabanoyado Mutsuki, also known as White Birch House in English, littered with empty food packages and other detritus.

A Chinese visitor named Wang Yu reserved the property for five adults for a period of three days, as evidenced by a screenshot of the Airbnb booking history.

According to the websites of Japanese homestay management companies, the expense of conducting a comprehensive cleaning of a property ranges from 5,000 to 15,000 yen (US$33 to $99).

It is unclear how much the host charged these Chinese visitors, despite the fact that property hosts have the authority to establish cleaning fees at their discretion.Numerous travel booking platforms have indicated that the property was temporarily unavailable for reservations, significantly impacting the host's business.

Booking.com lists the property at a nightly rate of approximately US$400. The post on X received 3.6 million views, which incited outrage among online observers in China and Japan."The immoral behaviour of these five individuals will view the entire Chinese nation negatively," declared one Japanese commenter on X.
