Foreigner Lost Passport in Huangpu River?! What They Did Next...
Pic irrelevant to text
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you lost your passport in an unexpected place like the Huangpu River? Believe it or not, this has actually happened! Living in Shanghai is not just about exploring the vibrant cityscape—it also involves knowing the right contacts for unforeseen complications.
Quick Call to "12367" Saves the Day
So, a foreign friend managed to let their passport take a swim in the Huangpu. Instead of panicking, they dialed "12367."
This hotline is the lifeline for many foreigners, providing 24/7 bilingual support for immigration-related inquiries and emergencies. The professional response and guidance on how to proceed with replacing vital documents is a testament to the efficiency of Shanghai's support systems for international residents.
What Else Do Expats Ask About?
Curious about what other common issues foreigners seek help with? On June 7, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration head, Cai Baodi, and the consultant Wu Lisi detailed the frequent questions received:
Permanent Residency Applications: For instance, a university professor wishing to apply for permanent residency would need recommendations from their university or could provide other credentials like a Ph.D. and proof of income.
Visas for Family Members: Students or workers in China can facilitate visits from relatives by helping them apply for the appropriate family reunion visas (S1 or S2), depending on the duration of the stay they wish for.
Understanding the "Five-Star Card": A new version of the permanent residence card that offers enhanced features for social use, such as being used as an identity card within China for purchasing tickets or checking into hotels without needing a passport.
Accessibility and Efficiency of Service
From January to May this year, the Shanghai immigration hotline handled an impressive 210,912 calls, with an average daily intake of 1,388 calls—ranking second nationwide. The efficiency is remarkable with a 98.01% connection rate, 95.22% of calls answered within 15 seconds, and a 100% satisfaction rate, all surpassing national averages.
Remember the Number: "12367"
Whether it's consulting on visa issues, reporting illegal activities, or seeking emergency assistance like in the case of a lost passport in the Huangpu River (or others, most likely), "12367" is more than just a number—it's a gateway to peace of mind for foreigners in China.
In addition to telephone consultation, you can also handle affairs through the mini-program "移民局12367".
So, if you ever find yourself or a friend in need, remember this number and share the story to keep the international community well-informed and prepared!
