Country stops waiving visas for Chinese nationals

The spokesperson, Lin Jian, addressed the issue of Ecuador's cancellation of visa-free entry for Chinese citizens during the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' regular press conference on June 18.

Reporter for Bloomberg: There are indications that, effective July 1, Chinese citizens will be required to obtain a visa in order to enter Ecuador.

It is evident that tens of thousands of Chinese emigrants are migrating from Ecuador to the United States.

What is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' perspective on this matter?

Lin Jian: China and Ecuador implemented a mutual visa exemption agreement in August 2016, fostering bilateral exchanges and practical cooperation across a variety of sectors.

The Chinese government is adamantly opposed to any form of illicit immigration.

In recent years, Chinese law enforcement agencies have been implementing a stringent approach to the suppression of illegal activities that impede national (border) management.

They have maintained a high-pressure stance against a variety of smuggling organizations and individuals involved in these activities, and they have achieved substantial results.

Simultaneously, Chinese law enforcement is collaborating with relevant countries to jointly address cross-border illicit activities, repatriate illegal immigrants, and preserve the order of international personnel exchanges.
