Four American College Educators Stabbed in Park in China, Investigation Ongoing

In a recent incident in Beishan Park, Jilin City, four American educators were injured in a stabbing attack. The suspect, identified by his surname Cui, a 55-year-old local resident, was quickly apprehended by the police following the attack, which occurred at approximately 11:49 a.m. on Monday.

According to the police, the confrontation began when Mr. Cui accidentally collided with one of the educators while walking in the park. The situation escalated, leading to the unfortunate stabbing of the educators and a Chinese tourist who courageously intervened in an attempt to stop the attack. The victims, associated with Cornell College in Iowa, were in Jilin as part of a partnership program with Beihua University.

Authorities acted promptly to the emergency call, ensuring that the injured were immediately transported to the hospital. Thanks to the swift response of the local emergency services, all involved received the necessary medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries.

In response to the incident, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday that all the injured were immediately taken to the hospital and received proper treatment, adding that none is in a life-threatening condition.

The police initially determined it was a random incident, and that an investigation is ongoing, Lin said during a press conference on Tuesday.

China is recognized as one of the safest countries in the world and has always taken effective measures, and will continue to do so, to protect the safety of all foreigners in China, Lin said.

Such random incidents will not affect normal cultural exchanges between China and the US, the spokesperson stressed.

When asked by a reporter about whether it is a targeted case or a random case, Lin reiterated that China is recognized as one of the safest countries in the world. China has always taken and will continue to take effective measures to ensure the safety of all foreigners in China.

When reporters asked at the press conference whether police had arrested any suspect or determined the motive behind the incident, Lin said the police are currently conducting an active investigation.

"The police initially judged that this was random incident, and that the situation is under further investigation," he said.
