The Beijinger, one of the most popular magazines for foreigners in Beijing and the premier English-language lifestyle media as well, introduced Purple Bamboo in its WeChat public account.
Flexible
As editors, their lives are pretty busy but Purple Bamboo can adjust the class schedule according to their availability. They can also choose from either group classes (either two to four people or five to eight people) or one-on-one classes, the latter of which makes it easy to ask any questions they have.
Fun and interactive
Classes are structured around interacting with words and grammar points taken from current news topics (something they are pretty keen on as editors). They never spend the classes looking at the clock; instead, they always ask has it been an hour already?
Designed for Individual
Rather than reading out of a textbook or doing boring grammar exercises, Purple Bamboos teachers design all of the content. The teacher gently points out students mistakes and uses them to guide the progress of the lesson. Its nice to feel like chatting with a friend in Chinese rather than sitting in a class and that certainly helps to keep motivated. Most of the editors agree that they feel much more confident in speaking Chinese nowadays.
Great reviews
Here are some comments from other students who have studied at Purple Bamboo.
