One evening, Mr. Jing was having dinner with his friends, many of whom had had one too many drinks, feeling very intoxicated by the time everyone was ready to go home.
Rightfully so, he contacted a driving service to take his friend and himself back to their respective houses using his own Maybach car in Kunshan, Jiangsu province
At 11:12 p.m., after the driver pulled over so his friend could get off and go home, Mr. Jing and the driver got into an argument when another RMB 150 was added to the originally agreed-upon RMB 199.
Neither side would budge.
Instead of paying the full amount, Mr. Jing transferred the RMB 150 the driver was asking for, and asked him to get out of his car so he would drive himself home for the rest of the journey.
While driving under the influence is against the law, the other problem that Mr. Jing faced was that the drivers electric scooter, which had been placed in the trunk, was still in there! Mr. Jing took the initiative to drive himself to the nearest police station and drop it off there for the driver to pick it up later.
But can you drive home by yourself after you've called a surrogate driver?
The driving agent also called the police to report directly Mr.Jing's drunk driving, after which they used a breathalyzer to test Mr. Jings alcohol levels.
As it turned out, not only was Mr. Jing not drunk while driving that night, but he actually doesnt drink - ever!
So why would he call a driving service to drive him and his friend home, when he could have driven the car himself?
I dont like driving at night, Mr. Jing told police officers. I usually have my own driver.
